Fort Lauderdale officials are cautioning residents and visitors against indulging in any water sports or recreational activities along a portion of the Karen Canal due to a sewer overflow that has affected the water quality. The specific boundaries of the advisory area are NE 6th Court to the north, Hendricks Isle to the south, Sunrise Key Boulevard to the east, and N Victoria Terrace to the west. Activities such as swimming, fishing, jet skiing, and others within this zone are currently deemed unsafe.
The City's response to this environmental hiccup includes conducting daily water sampling to monitor the water's condition. According to a public advisory released by Fort Lauderdale, the advisory will remain in place until test results return to satisfactory levels that ensure the safety of the public for water-related activities.
