As detailed in a social media post by IMPD East District, these individuals engaged in a daring rescue when a vehicle, carrying a father and his two children, plunged into a retention pond at 4000 Pendleton Way.
Upon the critical situation unraveling, the officers dove into the cold embrace of the water, unflinchingly, to begin the rescue operation. Assisted by three officers from the City of Lawrence Police Department—who came bearing rope bags to aid from shore—the combined effort of the officers led to the saving of the two young passengers. Regrettably, the father succumbed and could not be revived. "Your actions were nothing short of heroic," a commendation by IMPD acknowledged, honoring the courage and swiftness that ensured the children's survival.
