An 18-year-old man from Lebanon, Indiana, was arrested in Florida following theft-related incidents. Liam Ferris Engel was taken into custody last Friday after attempting to steal a motorcycle and a golf cart, as reported by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Engel was seen by a witness inside a pickup truck and ran when confronted by authorities, as per NBC Miami. He was later found in a golf cart he said he was renting, but officials confirmed it had been stolen from a home on Hawksbill Lane in Sugarloaf Key.
Video footage from security cameras showed Engel attempting to steal a motorcycle, linking him to multiple thefts. Deputies arrived around 9:40 p.m. at a North Johnson Drive address and found Engel with the motorcycle keys; he dropped and tried to kick them under a patrol vehicle, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office on their Facebook page. Engel now faces charges of grand theft, burglary, attempted grand theft, and tampering with evidence. He is in jail awaiting further legal proceedings.
