Indianapolis residents are advised to stay indoors unless necessary as hazardous winter conditions continue. In a social media post, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the travel warning remains in effect and should be followed except for essential travel.
Despite ongoing efforts by the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, roads remain unsafe for general travel. IMPD said travel should be limited to “emergency management, public safety, healthcare workers, and other essential personnel, including utility crews,” to reduce traffic and protect those maintaining critical services.
IMPD also thanked the Department of Public Works for its ongoing efforts to clear roads. “Major shoutout to Indianapolis Department of Public Works crews who have been working around the clock to clear roadways as conditions allow,” the department said, urging drivers to give crews space. Police also praised their officers for continuing to serve during the severe weather.
Despite these efforts, roads remain extremely slick and dangerous. Police again urged residents to stay home if possible, adding they will continue to provide updates as conditions improve.
