Indianapolis residents may want to keep their jackets handy and prepare for another bout of winter weather, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service. While temperatures on Wednesday are expected to hover in the low 50s under mostly cloudy skies, conditions are projected to change as we head towards the weekend. The NWS report indicates incoming rain with a 70% chance on Thursday, accompanied by gusty winds and new precipitation amounts of up to a quarter of an inch.
Tonight, Indianapolis will see mostly cloudy skies with lows dropping to around 37 degrees, while the west wind is anticipated to settle around 7 mph. Friday night could bring more rain, cloud cover, and a drop in temperature to 41 degrees, with a 60 percent likelihood of precipitation as per the NWS. The pattern continues into Saturday with a mix of rain and snow predicted in the afternoon, which means that roadways could become slippery, and visibility may be reduced.
Looking ahead through the weekend, residents should anticipate a drop in temperatures with the possibility of snow showers. Saturday night's forecast includes a 20 percent chance of snow and lows potentially plunging to 26 degrees. This chilly trend extends into Sunday, where despite the promise of mostly sunny skies, the high is expected merely to reach 35 degrees.
For those making plans for the following week, NWS forecasts suggest that a respite from the harsher weather is on the horizon with sunny conditions slated for Monday and a high near 42 degrees.
