State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) is pushing for the repair and reopening of the historic State Road 225 bridge over the Wabash River in Tippecanoe County. Closed since summer 2022, the bridge connects Battle Ground, Americus, and Delphi. According to Indiana Senate Republicans, INDOT will soon field bids for truss reconstruction and repair, reducing detours for local residents.
Built in 1910, the State Road 225 bridge is a historic structure in Tippecanoe County. It was closed after cracks were discovered in the truss. According to Indiana Senate Republicans, INDOT will oversee repairs in compliance with state and federal historic preservation requirements. “The bridge is a vital connection for Battle Ground, Americus, and Delphi,” Alting said. “Its closure has forced residents to drive extra miles, increasing gas costs.”
Alting emphasized the bridge’s importance to local and through traffic, saying he will continue to work with INDOT to ensure it is properly repaired and pledging to oversee the project’s progress. With bids underway, repairs could begin soon.
According to the same press release, Alting is encouraging residents to provide input on the State Road 225 bridge project through an online survey or the “Contact Me” form on his website. He said that as “The Crossroads of America,” it’s important to maintain roads and bridges for future generations.
