The City of Lawrence has added a fresh page to its community playbook with the introduction of the Forever Young Club, a series of activities aimed predominantly, though not exclusively, at the city's 55+ demographic. The Lawrence Community Center, located at 5301 N. Franklin Rd., is now the go-to venue for seniors looking to spice up their routine with some free, weekly entertainment and fitness sessions.
Thursdays are now synonymous with Game Days, a weekly ritual starting at 11 AM where residents can engage in friendly competition and socialize, and when fitness takes center stage, it's all about the second Friday of every month, that's when chair aerobics sessions led by KYT Fitness beckon those seeking to flex their muscles in a low-impact environment. Yoga enthusiasts have also found their rhythm, convening on the last Friday of each month to stretch and strengthen. All activities, as reported by the city's official announcement, are on the house for anyone interested.
While the Forever Young Club casts a spotlight on those 55 and older, inclusivity is the underlying thread; the encouragement beams, 'everyone is welcome'. The fabric of these gatherings is woven with more than just the physical – they're a tapestry of camaraderie and community, where laughter resonates as loudly as the instructor's count during a chair aerobics session. Roman Coffer, the Recreation Coordinator responsible for this initiative, has seamlessly blended recreation with wellness, effectively fortifying a sanctuary for socialization and health within Lawrence's city limits.
