A Manor woman turned the tables on an armed intruder Friday morning, shooting the suspect with the intruder's own gun after someone forced their way into her home. Police say the suspect was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, and the homeowner is cooperating with investigators.
According to KXAN, the homeowner called police to report that a person had broken into her house with a gun. During the confrontation, officers say she managed to wrestle control of the intruder's weapon and fire it, hitting the suspect. The injured person was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center in critical condition, the outlet reported.
Police response and investigation
Manor Police Department detectives are handling the investigation and locked down the scene Friday morning while officers collected evidence and interviewed the homeowner. Investigators say she is cooperating as they work to reconstruct exactly how the break-in and shooting unfolded.
How Texas law views home-defense shootings
As outlined in the Texas Penal Code, a person may use force when they reasonably believe it is immediately necessary to protect themselves from another person's unlawful force. That belief is presumed reasonable if someone unlawfully and with force enters an occupied home. That legal framework can influence whether prosecutors decide to pursue charges when a homeowner shoots an intruder.
Police have not released the names of anyone involved and have not announced any charges, according to KXAN. The investigation is still active, and Manor Police say they will share more information as it becomes available.
