A new public art mural has been installed at the Fort Harrison IndyGo Station near Ivy Tech in Lawrence, Indiana. Created by Indianapolis artist Tasha Beckwith, the mural highlights elements of the city’s history and present-day identity.
According to the City of Lawrence's Facebook post, the mural features a historic interurban rail car, the Fort Ben water tower, native plants, and a monarch butterfly. The butterfly represents Lawrence’s designation as a Monarch City. The artwork is located at the transit station and is visible to bus riders and visitors entering the Fort Ben area. Beckwith’s work focuses on cultural and historical themes, and this piece connects local landmarks with natural elements associated with the area.
City officials noted that the mural is intended to enhance the public space at the transportation hub and support the city’s efforts to incorporate public art into everyday settings.
