State Sen. Greg Goode, representing Terre Haute, has been recognized as the Legislator of the Year by the Coalition of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of Indiana (CAPNI). This accolade was bestowed upon him on Tuesday, Jan. 20 for his proactive efforts and support towards health care issues in the state. According to Indiana Senate Republicans, Goode has particularly shown his involvement through authoring two key pieces of legislation aimed at improving health care access for Indiana residents.
Senate Bill 60 and Senate Bill 383 are Goode's legislative efforts to formally recognize the critical role of APRNs in enhancing health care accessibility, especially for those in rural and underserved areas. "It is a great honor to be a part of the needed change within Indiana's health care system," Goode said, as per a statement obtained by Indiana Senate Republicans. Notably, these bills seek to fully integrate APRNs into the state's health system, providing a higher level of autonomy in their practice.
APRNs in Indiana, who encompass certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists, and nurse practitioners, have found an ally in Sen. Goode. CAPNI's mission to promote and advocate for APRN practice in the state resonates deeply with the goals that Goode champions. His willingness to actively collaborate and lead such initiatives is what led to his recognition by the nursing coalition.
Darla Berry, a CAPNI member, acknowledged the senator's contributions, stating, "We thank Sen. Goode for his dedication to improving access, supporting Indiana's health care workforce, and advancing better outcomes for Hoosiers across our state." According to the interview with Indiana Senate Republicans, she added that "His leadership reminds us that real progress happens when Hoosiers work together – with integrity, collaboration and the determination to make life better for our neighbors."
Constituents from Senate District 38 are encouraged to reach out to Sen. Goode for any questions or issues they may want to discuss.
