Wartrace’s town square is getting a sugary shot of caffeine. Sweet Nook Coffee Shop, a mother-daughter venture from Gabrielle and Kristina Cataldo, is slated to open later this winter at 20 1/2 Main Street. The roughly 500 to 600 square foot spot is designed as a snug retreat, with couches, high-top tables, trailing greenery and a pink-and-green color scheme. The Cataldos are eyeing a February opening and say they want the café to serve as a casual hangout for both locals and out-of-towners.
Whimsy Inside And On The Menu
Inside, Sweet Nook is planned as equal parts living room and coffee bar, with comfy seating, plenty of plants and a tight, curated menu. The Cataldos are centering things around homemade, small-batch syrups made with fruits and herbs. On deck are specialty drinks like a lavender honey latte and a blueberry lavender latte, along with coffee classics and Gabrielle’s muffins and cookies. As reported by What Now Nashville, the shop will run about 500 to 600 square feet and is meant to feel more like a neighborhood living room than a grab-and-go counter.
Owners Hope To Spark A Main Street Comeback
For Gabrielle and Kristina, the project is as much about Main Street as it is about macchiatos. “There’s a group of people buying all the buildings on the square and they’re renovating the entire square and bringing it back to its glory,” Kristina told What Now Nashville. The pair told the outlet they hope Sweet Nook’s lineup of small-batch drinks and baked goods will give people one more reason to linger on Main Street and help boost everyday foot traffic.
Why Wartrace’s Square Matters
Wartrace’s downtown has long punched above its weight as a regional draw. The town hosts the Strolling Jim ultra marathon and is home to landmarks such as the Walking Horse Hotel, so any new business on the square has a decent shot at becoming a small anchor for fresh activity. The owners say they hope Sweet Nook slots into that tradition by offering a friendly place to sit, talk and stay a while.
