Senator Mark Spencer’s Senate Bill 232 cleared the Senate Local Government Committee with a unanimous vote. According to the Indiana Senate Democrats, the bill gives the City of Gary more flexibility in managing its real estate, aiming to spur economic development along the Gary lakefront.

Senator Spencer, a Democrat from Gary, expressed his satisfaction with the committee’s approval, saying the measure will provide the city with a tool to create jobs and support development around the lakefront.
Support from Committee Chairman Jim Buck, a Republican from Kokomo, highlights bipartisan backing for Gary’s economic recovery. Spencer expressed his appreciation for Buck’s support and the testimony that helped the bill pass.
