Stuart residents experienced a disruption last night when a Brightline train collided with an unoccupied SUV, leading to the closure of Southeast Dixie Highway near Southeast Decker Avenue. The Stuart Police Department reported the incident, and photos from the scene show the SUV heavily damaged and caught against the commuter train.
The reason the SUV was on the tracks remains unclear, and the driver was not present at the time of the collision. Stuart Police are investigating and have advised residents to use alternate routes while the area remains blocked.
Near Rinker Crossing, the collision caused traffic to come to an immediate stop. The Stuart Police Department, in a statement shared with WPBF, urged drivers to avoid Southeast Dixie Highway at Decker Avenue to allow emergency personnel and investigators to manage the scene.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the collision between the stationary SUV and the Brightline train. Officials have asked the public for cooperation as they work to resolve the traffic disruption, with images from the scene showing the train lodged against the vehicle, according to coverage by CBS12.
