At the Westfield Chamber of Commerce’s 42nd annual Lantern Awards, a night dedicated to recognizing local community leaders, the Westfield Fire Department witnessed one of their own receiving high honors. EMS Division Chief Patrick Hutchison was bestowed with the First Responders Award of Distinction, a symbol of dedication and excellence in the field of emergency medical services.
The accolade, announced in a social media post by the Westfield Fire Department, reflects Hutchison's pivotal role in enhancing the EMS division of the fire department. Having been worked tirelessly to improve the system, Hutchison's achievements include the inception of Field Resource Paramedics and the establishment of EMS Battalion Chief positions—improvements that aim directly at meeting the dynamic health needs of the Westfield community.
Fire Chief Rob Gaylor praised Chief Hutchison's impact, noting his unwavering focus on progressive, patient-centered, and resilient emergency medical services. "Under his leadership, EMS at Westfield Fire became more progressive, more patient-centered, and more resilient. He championed the development of Field Resource Paramedics, established EMS Battalion Chief positions, and expanded our Mobile Integrated Health program to include a community paramedic and dedicated social worker—ensuring we meet the evolving needs of our community in meaningful ways," Gaylor said, as stated in the Facebook post. Hutchison's commitment to education is seen having translated into an exceptional achievement where every recruit academy EMT class under his leadership has earned a 100% first-attempt pass rate on the National Registry exam.
This recognition is far from just a plaque on the wall or a token of appreciation. It is a testament to Hutchison's dedication to not only the Westfield Fire Department but also to every individual who may find themselves in need of emergency assistance. The community now benefits from his foresight in expanding the Integrated Health program, which now encompasses a community paramedic and dedicated social worker.
