A 49-year-old Central Stickney man is facing felony charges after Chicago police arrested him Wednesday in connection with a December shooting in Brighton Park that left a driver with a graze wound.
Officers took Victor Silva into custody around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 4400 block of West 47th Street, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Silva, 49, of Central Stickney, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery for discharging a firearm and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a detention hearing.
Why the Southwest Side Is Watching This Case
The arrest ends a nearly two-month stretch without a named suspect and shows how detectives sometimes circle back to older shooting cases when new information surfaces. Brighton Park and nearby Southwest Side neighborhoods have seen a string of recent gun violence, including an early January SUV attack that wounded two people, reported in Western Avenue drive turns bloody.
Police Version of the December Shooting
Investigators say Silva was identified as the person who opened fire on a vehicle on Dec. 12 around 3:55 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Kedzie Avenue, according to the Chicago Police Department. The victim, a 48-year-old man, suffered a graze wound to the stomach and declined medical treatment at the scene, FOX 32 Chicago reported.
What Comes Next in Court
Silva remains in custody ahead of Thursday’s detention hearing, where a judge will decide whether he should stay locked up while the case moves forward. Police have not released any information about a possible motive, and officials are asking anyone with tips about the shooting to contact Area detectives.
