A routine Wednesday night in Pahokee took a sharp turn when a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a shooting near Doveland Drive, according to officials. The sheriff’s office has confirmed the incident but is not yet saying whether anyone was hurt or how many people were involved.
PBSO spokesperson Teri Barbera told reporters the shooting happened in the area of Doveland Drive and that deputies were still on scene late into the night as detectives tried to sort out what led up to the gunfire, according to WPEC/CBS12.
Investigation and oversight
The sheriff’s office said it is investigating the shooting but did not immediately specify which agency will take the lead on the probe. In Florida, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is often brought in to review officer-involved shootings at the request of local agencies. The agency typically declines to discuss active cases while they are under review, according to FDLE.
Local context
Pahokee sits in the Glades region of western Palm Beach County, an area that has weathered repeated violent incidents and high-profile cases that have tested both residents and law enforcement. The community still remembers the 2025 killing of Palm Beach County Corrections Deputy Basil Powell outside his Belle Glade home, a case covered by WPTV.
For now, officials are keeping a tight lid on details, and local coverage has described the Pahokee shooting as a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available, per WPEC/CBS12.
