Two people were arrested in Fairfield after a driver allegedly pointed a handgun at another man and officers later recovered a loaded firearm during an investigation, police said. The traffic stops and arrests unfolded yesterday along several blocks of Travis Boulevard and North Texas Street.
What Police Say
According to a Facebook post by the Fairfield Police Department, a man reported that a driver had pointed a firearm at him near the intersection of Travis Boulevard and Clay Street. Officers located and stopped a vehicle and detained the occupants while they investigated, and an alert citizen later reported that a man had hidden a firearm in his clothing on the 1300 block of Travis Boulevard.
Context: Recent Weapons Stops
The arrests come amid a string of weapons-related stops Fairfield police have publicized in recent weeks. In January, officers similarly recovered a gun during a traffic response, as detailed in a Hoodline report on recovered a gun during a traffic response.
Arrests and Evidence Recovered
The department identified two people arrested in connection with the incident: Kalil Macklin, taken into custody on suspicion of brandishing a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm, and David Jones, arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and possessing a high-capacity magazine. Officers later located the vehicle on the 1700 block of N. Texas Street and recovered a loaded firearm from inside, according to the department’s post.
Legal Implications
If prosecutors file charges, the allegations could implicate several state statutes. Brandishing is addressed under Penal Code section 417 (per legal summaries), carrying a loaded firearm in public is prohibited by Penal Code section 25850, and large-capacity magazines are restricted under Penal Code section 32310. Those provisions carry misdemeanor or, in some circumstances, felony penalties depending on the facts and any prior convictions, as outlined by Shouse Law and the California Penal Code sections published by the California Legislature and the California Legislature.
