Early this morning, a fire erupted in a Miami home's garage, swiftly turning it into an intense blaze. According to WSVN, the incident occurred just after 5 a.m. along Southwest 24th Terrace. Upon arrival, firefighters confronted a perilous scene with smoke and flames pouring out of a home garage with an attached carport. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire in approximately 10 minutes. In a statement obtained by WSVN, Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez said, "So, a couple with an elderly father; they were able to bring him out with their two teenage boys."
All five occupants—a couple, their two teenage sons, and an elderly father—escaped unharmed. They also quickly ensured that their dog and several pet birds were safely removed from danger. “We spoke with the resident outside. You know, she was shaken up, she said it was very scary, which is understandable,” said Sanchez. While the fire was, for the most part, contained to the garage and carport, the home suffered smoke damage and was considered unsafe. The cause of the fire, initially believed to be electrical, remains under investigation, as reported by WSVN.
In a parallel account from NBC Miami, the family was confirmed to have been displaced due to the incident. With their home no longer habitable, the family, along with their pets, is reportedly staying with relatives. Firefighters' quick action prevented the fire from spreading beyond the garage area, but the structure could not be saved, leaving significant damage and charred remains visible in footage from the scene.
An official investigation into the exact cause of the fire is currently underway.
