An early-morning blaze ripped through a Carmel home today, sending a thick column of smoke over the neighborhood but, remarkably, leaving everyone unhurt.
All occupants made it out of the house safely, and firefighters moved fast to knock back the flames in the 600 block of High Drive, near 126th Street and Keystone Parkway.
According to WTHR, the Carmel Fire Department said the fire was reported around 7:15 a.m. and brought under control by about 7:45 a.m. Video from the scene showed heavy flames and dark smoke pouring from the home, but officials confirmed there were no injuries to either residents or firefighters. While crews worked, Carmel Police shut down 126th Street in both directions between East Carmel Drive and Keystone Parkway.
Crews Conduct Overhaul and Safety Checks
Even after the visible flames were out, firefighters stayed on scene into the morning, tracking down hotspots, ventilating smoke and combing through the structure to make sure no hidden fire remained. Investigators are expected to examine the home to determine what sparked the blaze, and officials asked drivers to steer clear of the area while emergency operations wrapped up.
