When a medical crisis erupted at a local business last November, it wasn't just the Noblesville first responders who raced against time to save a life. Sharing details of the dramatic event on social media, the Noblesville Police Department recounted how community spirit and prompt action intertwined to avert tragedy.
The officers arrived to find a retired physician and his wife, a retired nurse, already administering life-saving chest compressions to an adult male stricken by a sudden medical emergency. Within moments, Sergeant Knust and Officer Liu took charge, with the latter quick to apply an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The device delivered a critical shock, and Liu immediately began to further perform chest compressions, their joint efforts steadily improving the patient's condition, his pulse restored before Noblesville Fire Department medics took over. They then transported the patient to a hospital where he received further medical attention. In the Noblesville Police Department's retelling, "The patient's condition improved, and a pulse was restored before NFD medics began care." The Noblesville Fire Department later emphasized that the "early intervention and rapid use of the AED played a critical role in the patient's survival."
