
State Rep. Mike Karickhoff of Kokomo has been honored by his peers as he wraps up a notable 16-year career in the Indiana House of Representatives. First elected in 2010 to represent House District 30, which includes parts of Grant and Howard counties, Karickhoff has been a fixture in the state's legislature, serving as Speaker Pro Tempore since 2019. A recent press release by the Indiana House Republicans highlighted his tenure and contributions to his district and state.
According to the Indiana House Republicans, in his valedictory remarks, Karickhoff reflected on his time in office, "I appreciated the opportunity to serve the people of House District 30," and continued to express his pride in, "Over the past 16 years, I've been proud to work alongside my colleagues to advance responsible policies that strengthen Hoosier communities, improve local schools and infrastructure, promote efficient government and ensure taxpayer dollars are used wisely. " These declarations mirror a dedication to fiscal responsibility and community well-being that Karickhoff has championed throughout his numerous committee roles, including the influential Ways and Means committee.
His legislative footprint includes leading updates to state and local tax policy in 2017 and shaping the allocation of opioid settlement funds in 2022, with an aim at expanding treatment, prevention, and recovery options. In 2025, he pushed forward with administrative reforms to streamline state operations and repeatedly supported the thirteenth check, a one-time payment proposition for retired public servants. According to Indiana House Republicans, House Speaker Todd Huston praised Karickhoff, saying, "During Mike's time in the General Assembly, he has positively impacted the House, the communities he served and our state," and acknowledged his "focus on practical, results-driven solutions."
Karickhoff's efforts have earned him multiple accolades such as Legislator of the Year from several associations, and he has received the Sagamore of the Wabash award, a prestigious recognition by the Indiana governor, for his substantial state contributions. Before his legislative service, Karickhoff was integrated into the fabric of his community through his roles in local government and various organizations like the American Red Cross Board, and United Way of Howard County.
After a prolific career marked by public service in various capacities, the former superintendent of Kokomo parks and Ivy Tech's executive director of facilities is now preparing to hand over the reins. Alongside his wife, Kelly, and a growing family of daughters and grandchildren, Karickhoff looks forward to continuing his impact on Hoosier communities in new ways.
