The concerned commuters of Marion and Hamilton County are receiving a welcome surprise as the Township Line Road bridge over I-465 is slated to unexpectedly open earlier than its originally scheduled spring reopening. Following a closure that began in the summer of 2025 for a comprehensive replacement project, the bridge is set to be accessible once again to the public on or after Tuesday, Feb. 10. However, officials caution that despite this advancement in the timeline, the bridge will see another temporary closure of about a week later in the spring for the application of final pavement markings and asphalt work, according to FOX59.
Providing more details on the situation, FOX59 reported that the Indiana Department of Transportation has confirmed the early reopening and noted the necessity for additional lane closures on I-465 to allow crews to safely complete work on the bridge’s underside. Motorists can expect these closures between U.S. 421 (Michigan Road) and Ditch Road, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on specified days. These restrictions are set to impact westbound I-465 on Feb. 16–17, with two right lanes closed, and Feb. 18–19, where two left lanes will be unavailable. Subsequently, eastbound I-465 will see two left lanes closed on Feb. 20–21, followed by closures of two right lanes on Feb. 23–24.
According to a news release obtained by WTHR, the current work schedule is contingent upon weather conditions and may adjust accordingly. INDOT urges drivers to exercise caution and reduce their speed when traveling through the work zones. This proactive approach to managing infrastructure work and the subsequent traffic adjustments demonstrates INDOT's commitment to safety and efficiency.
Completing the trifecta of updates, You Are Current elaborated that despite the bridge's substantial completion, the necessity for this additional week of closure in the spring should serve to ensure that all finishing touches are meticulously applied. This not only encompasses the final pavement markings but also the remaining asphalt work to ensure a smooth and durable surface for all who traverse this vital connector between counties. INDOT's strategy appears to not only swiftly reestablish transportation links but also to do so with an eye towards long-term quality and sustainability.
