Tuesday on Indianapolis’ west side was supposed to be a celebration for Kristopher “Kris” Somerville. Instead, it marked one year since he was shot and killed, on what would have been his 37th birthday. His homicide is still unsolved, and the silence around the case is wearing on his family and neighbors as detectives again ask the public for help.

What Happened That Night

Just after 12:25 a.m. on Feb. 25, 2025, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to a report of a person shot in the 5300 block of West 34th Place. A short distance away, in the 3500 block of Beeler Avenue, they found Somerville.

He was rushed to a hospital, where he died shortly after arriving. Investigators told reporters he had been walking from a nearby liquor store with a friend when someone opened fire, according to WISH-TV.

Neighbors, Family Keep Pushing For Answers

In the days after the killing, west side residents and Somerville’s relatives began publicly pressing for answers. Local coverage captured the neighborhood’s frustration and grief as police asked once again for tips in the case. One report on the community’s push for justice noted that investigators urged anyone with information to contact Detective TyAnn Lambert at 317-327-3475 or by email at [email protected].

One Year Later, Case Still Cold

On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released a new statement, once again asking for the public’s help in breaking the case open. The department underscored that Somerville’s killing remains unsolved and that any small piece of information could matter.

WISH-TV reports that Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana may offer a cash reward of up to $1,000 for tips that lead to a felony arrest.
