The event drew dozens of residents and city officials, underscoring how the Fort Ben stretch continues to attract retail investment as city leaders work to turn the area into a destination rather than a drive-through.
According to a City of Lawrence Facebook post, Whitfield and city staff welcomed the crowd as Starbucks handed out complimentary drinks and snack samples for the grand opening community day.
