A Thursday shooting at Milligan Park in Crawfordsville left a 31-year-old man dead, turning the city’s largest park into an active crime scene, authorities said.
The victim, identified by police as Kaleb Isabell of Rockville, was taken from the park at 1100 Mill Street to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville, where he was later pronounced dead, according to officials.
Crawfordsville police said several people were detained at the scene as part of the investigation, which remained active as of Friday. Emergency crews from the Crawfordsville Police Department, Crawfordsville Fire Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Indiana State Police all responded.
Milligan Park, which had been closed off while officers worked the scene, was reopened to the public at 1:34 p.m. Friday, according to a Facebook post from the City of Crawfordsville. Park details
Milligan Park is Crawfordsville's largest park, featuring playgrounds, ballfields, a skate park and a 22-hole disc-golf course, according to the City of Crawfordsville. Parts of the park were shut down Thursday while investigators processed the area after Isabell was transported to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville, the primary hospital in the area.
Investigation and legal process
Police said the investigation is still underway but added that they do not believe there is an immediate threat to the public, according to WTHR. Authorities have not released information about possible suspects or any charges as detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
