A 22-year-old man was fatally shot in the stomach early Sunday in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood, according to police. He made it to a nearby hospital after the shooting but was later pronounced dead.
Chicago police told reporters that the shooting took place around 4:15 a.m. in the 1900 block of East 72nd Place, as reported by WGN-TV. Officers said the wounded man was taken to a local hospital, where he died, and area detectives have launched an investigation. No arrests had been reported in the initial account.
Neighborhood context
Hoodline reported on January 4 that a home becomes crime scene after a 51-year-old man was found shot inside a residence. Area 1 homicide detectives handled that earlier case, highlighting recent police activity in South Shore. Together, those incidents add to a string of shootings reported on parts of the South Side this year.
Investigation and how to help
Area detectives are continuing to examine the scene and track down leads, Chicago police said. According to WGN-TV, investigators have asked anyone with information, video, or tips to contact Chicago police. Officials had not released any suspect description at the time this report was filed.
