Indianapolis police arrested a 58-year-old man Sunday after investigators said he was involved in a shooting on the city’s near east side. Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Sherman Drive, near East New York Street, where they found a shooting victim who was taken to a nearby hospital. Hospital staff said the victim’s condition was stable.
According to WTHR, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested the 58-year-old in connection with the incident and said he already had an active warrant for battery by means of a deadly weapon, intimidation and unlawful carrying of a handgun. Officers at the scene found a person with gunshot injuries and transported that individual to the hospital, officials said. It was not immediately known whether prosecutors had filed any additional charges tied to this latest case.
How police want the public to help
Investigators are asking anyone who knows anything about the shooting to step up and share it with Crime Stoppers. People can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477 or submit tips online, according to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. Tipsters can stay anonymous and may qualify for rewards through the group’s reporting system.
Sherman Drive: a stretch with repeated incidents
The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents along Sherman Drive, which has seen multiple shootings and police responses in recent months. Some earlier cases have already resulted in arrests, as reported by WRTV. Those repeated calls for service have neighbors and officials again pressing anyone who witnessed anything to contact investigators.
Legal status
The man was taken into custody by IMPD on Sunday, and WTHR reports that he had an outstanding warrant linked to violent offenses. Investigators say the case remains under active review and will continue through the usual criminal-processing steps as prosecutors examine the evidence and determine how to proceed.
