Early Sunday in downtown Indianapolis, a disturbance near the White Castle in the 100 block of West South Street erupted into gunfire, leaving three people shot, according to police. One man was critically wounded, while two others were listed in stable condition. Officers said the incident appears to be isolated, and no arrests had been made as detectives continued canvassing the area.
As reported by WTHR, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers first responded to a call about a disturbance at the White Castle. One male victim later walked into IU Health after being shot, another victim was found at the restaurant and taken to a hospital, and a third victim was discovered in the 1300 block of Madison Avenue. IMPD told WTHR it believes all three shootings are connected, that witnesses are cooperating, and that surveillance video from the restaurant could help clarify what unfolded.
White Castle Lot Has Been a Recurring Flashpoint
The downtown White Castle parking lot has seen trouble before. In 2019, a shooting there injured two judges, according to WISH-TV. That history has put an extra spotlight on surveillance footage and quick witness tips as detectives work this latest case.
What Investigators Are Doing Now
IMPD said officers have not detained anyone and are reviewing surveillance from the restaurant along with other video to piece together the sequence of events, WTHR reports. Detectives are urging anyone who saw what happened to come forward as the investigation continues.
