Chicago police have launched a death investigation after a 30-year-old man was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound to the head inside a West Side home Wednesday morning.
The man was discovered in East Garfield Park on the 3100 block of West Madison Street and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to WGN-TV, officers were called just after 9 a.m. for reports of an unresponsive person and found the victim inside the residence. Chicago police have opened a formal death investigation, and autopsy results are still pending.
Autopsy And Next Steps
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office is expected to conduct an autopsy and any necessary toxicology testing as officials work to determine the cause and manner of death.
Families who need information about timelines for reports or how to obtain official records are directed to contact the Medical Records Department listed on the county site for instructions on requesting documents.
How The Case Fits Into Citywide Trends
WBEZ has reported that Chicago’s homicide and shooting numbers have moved down from the spikes seen during the pandemic years, even as pockets of the West Side continue to experience periodic violence.
Community organizers and violence-intervention workers say that prevention efforts and support services remain key parts of the response, even while police handle the case-by-case investigations.
FOX 32 notes that anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Bureau of Detectives — Area Three at (312) 744-8263 or submit an anonymous tip online at CPDTIP.com. For emergencies, residents should call 911.
