A man is fighting for his life after a shooting Tuesday at the Hubbard Gardens apartment complex on Indianapolis' east side, according to police. Officers arrived to find him suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
What police say
IMPD said east district officers were called to the Hubbard Gardens complex near East 42nd Street and Meadows Drive on a report of a person shot, according to WISH-TV. At the scene, officers found the victim with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds and detained a suspect. Investigators say the case remains active and that they are still working to sort out what led up to the gunfire.

The shooting unfolded at Hubbard Gardens, an income-based apartment community at 4004 Meadows Drive that has already been under a harsh spotlight. The complex has drawn ongoing maintenance complaints and recently received a visit from the Indiana Attorney General's office, which described "dire living conditions" at the property, as reported by WRTV.
