What started as a routine last night at Castleton Square Mall ended with a juvenile in the hospital after a reported stabbing, Indianapolis police said. Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the busy shopping center for a disturbance, and the youth was rushed to a hospital with traumatic injuries that officials later described as stable. Investigators say the incident appears to have involved multiple people and remains under investigation.
IMPD said officers were dispatched to the mall at about 8:45 p.m. Friday. The juvenile, who has not been publicly identified, suffered traumatic injuries and was transported to the hospital in stable condition. As reported by WTHR, investigators believe the episode started as a disturbance among several people and that everyone believed to have been involved has been detained.
Police response and how to help
Detectives are asking anyone who saw what happened, or who captured video, to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477) or submit information through the group's anonymous portals. The mall's management lists its address and security contact on Simon Property Group's Castleton Square page, and center security works closely with IMPD when incidents occur.
Castleton's safety record
Castleton Square has seen several high-profile incidents in recent years, including a January 2023 shooting that killed a teenager, according to the Associated Press. Those earlier episodes led to temporary boosts in patrols and renewed calls from residents and local leaders for tighter rules around large gatherings at the mall.
IMPD says the case remains active and detectives are continuing to follow leads. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or police, and authorities say further updates will come as investigators release them.
