Lehi is getting its long-awaited civic upgrade this month, as the new Lehi Library and Civic Center finally swing open their doors downtown. The library will quietly welcome visitors for a soft opening on April 6, followed by a full civic center grand opening and ribbon-cutting on April 16 at 131 N. 100 East. The project brings city administration offices and a two-story, modern library together under one roof, and the staff has been busy hauling in books, carts, and computers to get everything ready.
“It’s so nice to be in a beautiful building that is temperature-controlled and doesn’t drip or leak,” said Lehi Library director Kristi Seely, who has spent about 25 years with the library. Seely told KSL that crews have been settling into the new layout ahead of opening day, helped by a fresh batch of books the city purchased for the move.
What’s inside the new civic center
The new civic center comes in at roughly 60,000 square feet, with about 25,000 square feet carved out for the Lehi Library on the first and second floors. The building also houses community rooms, information services, and an expanded City Council chamber.
According to Engage Lehi, the first floor of the library is set up as a quieter zone with adult collections and study rooms, while the second floor is designed to be livelier, with a “non-shushing” children’s area, a dedicated teen space, and a recording studio equipped for podcasts and video projects.
From temporary digs to a bigger footprint
The former library was demolished to make room for the expanded civic campus, forcing the library into a temporary spot near I-15 for about two years. The interim location at 870 N. 100 East, Unit 110, kept core services running while construction moved forward, as reported by the Daily Herald. City leaders say the new building finally brings collections back together and gives staff the elbow room to grow programs.
Opening events and programming
The library’s soft launch on April 6 will start with regular hours and services, with programming ramping up after that. The larger civic center celebration on April 16 will include a ribbon-cutting and a family scavenger hunt through the new space.
KSL reports that the new layout roughly doubles the space available for programs. Engage Lehi notes that the main programming room can be split into smaller sections and comes outfitted with upgraded audiovisual equipment to better handle storytimes, performances, and other events. Officials say the added flexibility should make it easier to host larger crowds and keep a steady lineup of weekly activities.
Hours, address and visiting
The Lehi Library’s main entrance is located at 131 N. 100 E. in Lehi. Posted public hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information on programs, room reservations and contact details, residents can visit the Lehi City Library page at Lehi City.
City officials and library staff describe the civic center as a true gathering place, a free public space for studying, programs, job searches, and family outings in a rapidly growing community. As services shift back into the heart of downtown, leaders say the new complex is expected to anchor future upgrades in the area and make day-to-day civic business a little easier for residents.
