Two people were shot early today on Indianapolis' west side, in yet another late-night burst of gunfire that has neighbors on edge. Officers were called around 12:30 a.m. to the 800 block of Westbrook Avenue near West Washington Street, where they found two victims. One person was listed in critical condition, while the other was reported awake and breathing, police said.
Per WTHR, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers located the two people at the scene, and detectives were working to figure out what led to the shooting. No arrests were immediately announced, and investigators had not released information about a suspect or a possible motive.
Recent west-side shootings
The incident is the latest in a string of gunfire cases on the city's west side in recent weeks, including a late-March shooting that left a person wounded and a pre-dawn fatal shooting earlier this month. Coverage of those episodes and the community concern they have stirred can be found in earlier west-side gunfire.
Investigators asked anyone with information or video to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477), per WTHR. The investigation remains active, and IMPD encouraged residents to share any tips that could help detectives.
