Pike Township officials say they are done waiting for trouble to quiet down at N Zone Bar and Grill. After a weekend shootout on the northwest side that left two people at St. Vincent Hospital, leaders are promising to push for action against the bar, tucked near 86th Street and Michigan Road. The burst of gunfire has renewed a chorus of complaints from neighbors who say they are tired of late-night fights and parking-lot chaos. Trustee Annette Johnson said the incident only highlighted long-standing public-safety worries around the spot.
According to FOX59, officers were sent out shortly before 2 a.m. after a security guard called 911. A short time later, two people walked into St. Vincent Hospital with gunshot wounds. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s nuisance and abatement unit has opened a review to decide whether enforcement action is warranted, and the station reports police have not said whether any suspects or persons of interest have been identified or detained.
Officials, Residents Demand Answers
Pike Township Trustee Annette Johnson told FOX59, “I plan to reach out to the bar's owners to discuss best practices,” adding that residents and homeowners associations have logged repeated complaints about the venue. Johnson also noted that the Pike Township Fire Department has been called to the bar at least 20 times since it opened.
Past Permit Problems
N Zone’s troubles are not exactly new. A May 2022 inspection found the business did not have proper permits, and the Pike Township Fire Marshal ordered it shut down, as WRTV reported. That earlier closure, along with other incidents, led township officials to put late-night venues under tighter scrutiny.
What Comes Next
State records show N Zone Bar and Grill listed on the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission local board schedule, where license renewals and public remonstrations are handled. Residents can submit remonstrations at ATC hearings, and township leaders say they plan to pursue every enforcement and licensing option available while police complete their review.
