
A quiet Thursday morning in Bunker Hill turned tragic when a child was found unresponsive and later died, triggering a death investigation by Miami County authorities. Deputies and first responders were called to the 400 block of South Elm Street around 6:30 a.m., where efforts to save the child’s life were ultimately unsuccessful. The Miami County Coroner's Office and the sheriff's criminal investigations division have opened an inquiry as detectives work to piece together what happened.

According to WTHR, the Miami County Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigations Division said the Bunker Hill Town Marshal's Office, Indiana State Police, Parkview EMS and the Pipe Creek Fire Department all responded to the emergency call. Deputies located the child at a home in the 400 block of South Elm Street at about 6:30 a.m., and multiple first responder units tried to revive the child but were not able to do so. The sheriff's office told WTHR that "since this is an active investigation, no other details will be released at this time."

Bunker Hill is one of the small towns in Miami County, according to the county's official website. The town is also home to the Miami Correctional Facility at 3038 West 850 South, per the Indiana Department of Correction. As investigators continued their work at the scene on South Elm Street, local officials did not issue public comments.

The Miami County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death, the sheriff's office said, according to WTHR. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are leading the case and indicated they will release additional information when they are able.
