A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 near Weston sent several people to the hospital Sunday morning and turned one of Broward County’s busiest stretches of highway into a miles-long headache. Emergency crews swarmed the westbound lanes near the I-595 interchange, shutting down traffic while they worked the chaotic scene.
Authorities said the wreck happened late Sunday morning along the westbound side of I-75 just west of I-595 in Weston. A total of five people were hurt, including a child, and rescue crews issued multiple trauma alerts before transporting all of the injured to Broward Health Medical Center. First responders closed every westbound lane as they treated patients and documented the crash, according to WPLG Local 10.
A Familiar Stretch
That piece of I-75 has become an unfortunate trouble spot in recent months. Hoodline previously covered a fatal I-75 crash in Weston in January and an off-duty firefighters rescue on I-75 last August, adding to a troubling track record along the corridor.
Investigation And Traffic
Officials had not yet released information about what triggered Sunday’s pileup. Investigators remained on scene, and drivers were urged to steer clear of the area while crews cleared debris and slowly reopened lanes, according to WPLG Local 10.
Motorists should plan for backups on nearby surface streets until the interchange fully recovers. Authorities are expected to release more details once the investigation moves forward, and this story will be updated as police and medical officials share additional information.
