Police said the shooting happened around 2:19 p.m. in the 2800 block of South St. Louis after a physical altercation turned violent. A male suspect allegedly pulled a gun and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene. The man suffered several gunshot wounds to the body and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Area Four detectives are handling the case, and no arrests had been announced.

Officers told FOX 32 Chicago that the confrontation escalated when the male offender produced a firearm during the dispute and opened fire on the 40-year-old. Investigators were seen collecting evidence at the scene shortly after the shooting, and police said the victim remained in critical condition at Mt. Sinai.
