A Greenfield man who admitted to having sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl, leading to her pregnancy and the birth of a child, has been sentenced to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. The Hancock Circuit Court case centers on encounters investigators say took place in 2024.
Thirty-five-year-old Keith A. Collins pleaded guilty to two counts of Level 4 sexual misconduct with a minor and received two ten-year executed terms, ordered to run back to back for a total of 20 years, under a plea agreement, according to The Greenfield Reporter. The outlet reports that the agreement was filed this spring and the court directed the sentences to run consecutively.
Sentence entered in county court
The sentence was entered in Hancock Circuit Court at the county courthouse in downtown Greenfield. Judge Scott Sirk presides over the Circuit Court, and WRTV notes that he routinely handles felony matters there. The Hancock County website directs the public to the state’s MyCase system for access to docketed filings.
Case timeline and evidence
According to The Greenfield Reporter, the teen told investigators she began sexual contact with Collins in 2024 when she was 14, and that incidents took place in April, May and July of that year. The outlet reports that a sexual-assault kit submitted in May 2024 matched Collins, and that a Department of Child Services referral documented the teen’s disclosure of a pregnancy at Community East Hospital on Oct. 31, 2024. Genetic testing later identified Collins as the father, according to the reporting.
What the sentence means
The court entered a no-contact order for the victim that will remain in effect for the duration of Collins’ sentence, and prosecutors say he will be required to register on the Indiana Sex & Violent Offender Registry once processing is complete. The registry is maintained by the Indiana Department of Correction and provides public information about registered sex and violent offenders in the state, and the department explains how the system operates and how to search it.
Collins was represented by public defender Mark Manchak at the plea and sentencing hearing. Prosecutors and members of the victim’s family told reporters they were satisfied with the outcome, and court paperwork now moves Collins into the custody of the Indiana Department of Correction to begin serving his 20-year term.
