A Sunday afternoon shooting in the Hollygrove neighborhood left an adult woman dead after officers found her wounded on the 3800 block of Hollygrove Street shortly before 3:35 p.m., authorities said. New Orleans police reported that the investigation is ongoing and that no suspect information had been made public as of Sunday evening.
According to WDSU, officers discovered the woman suffering from a gunshot wound, and New Orleans EMS confirmed she died at the scene. The station said in a 4:27 p.m. CDT update on May 24 that no additional details were immediately available and that detectives had not announced any arrests at that time.
What investigators are asking
Investigators have asked anyone with information about the killing to contact the NOPD Homicide Section at 504-658-5300 or call Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111, according to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans and a local Crime Survivors resource. Crimestoppers notes that tips can be submitted anonymously through its hotline or online form. Authorities are urging residents not to confront any suspected individuals and instead to share video or other potential evidence directly with detectives.
Hollygrove's recent violence
The killing adds to a series of violent incidents reported in Hollygrove this year, with local outlets documenting several fatal and nonfatal attacks in recent months. Hoodline reported on an early-February fatal shooting and a March pre-dawn stabbing in the neighborhood, underscoring how isolated homicides and assaults continue to hit specific pockets of the city. Neighbors and community advocates have called for more targeted prevention efforts in blocks where violence keeps flaring up.
Police said they expect to release more information as the investigation moves forward, and WDSU carried the earliest public update on the case. Anyone with footage, details or other tips that might help detectives is urged to share that information with authorities.
