
A South Chicago block turned into a crime scene Thursday night when a 12-year-old boy was shot while standing outside near a basketball hoop, authorities said.
Police said a bullet grazed the boy’s left shoulder, and he was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
According to CBS Chicago, the shooting happened around 8:40 p.m. in the 8400 block of South Buffalo Avenue. Video from the scene showed officers working under flashing squad car lights, focusing their attention near a basketball hoop on the street where the boy had been standing when the shot hit him.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported the child was grazed in the left shoulder and taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. The outlet added that Area Two detectives have been assigned to the case, and no suspects were in custody.
South Side context
The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents involving young teens on the South Side this month.
On May 21, a 13-year-old was critically wounded in the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue, according to ABC7 Chicago. Earlier Thursday, a 15-year-old was critically injured in a separate shooting in Bronzeville, CBS Chicago reported.

Area Two detectives are continuing to investigate Thursday night’s South Chicago shooting. Police have not announced any arrests and have not said what may have led to the gunfire.
