A judge has approved moving the case of 17-year-old Demonte "Monte" Satter to adult court in connection with a deadly east-side shooting, court records show. Prosecutors say Satter is accused in a Dec. 13, 2024 garage shooting that left 16-year-old Kentrell LaSaveon Ali Johnson dead, and he is set for an initial adult-court hearing today.
According to court records and prosecutors, Satter was 15 at the time of the shooting and was arrested in March 2025. He now faces multiple charges, including murder, felony murder, robbery resulting in injury and dangerous possession of a firearm. After prosecutors sought to move the case, a judge granted the waiver to adult court. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office notes that waiver hearings involve both sides arguing over whether juvenile or adult court is the proper place for the case, as reported by WTHR.
IMPD investigators say the shooting happened inside a garage in the 800 block of Treyburn Green Drive, near Prospect Street and Mitthoefer Road, where officers arrived to find an injured juvenile. The Marion County Coroner later identified the victim as 16-year-old Kentrell LaSaveon Ali Johnson, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WISH.
Documents reviewed by WTHR state that Instagram messages referenced using a .40-caliber handgun and included photos taken inside Johnson's garage before the shooting. Surveillance video reportedly shows Satter and another person walking up to the home, then running away after gunfire. Court records indicate .40-caliber shell casings were found in the garage, and prosecutors say the messages discussed a plan to rob Johnson of firearms, including an AR-style pistol that was later reported missing.
What a Waiver to Adult Court Means
A waiver moves a case from juvenile court into the adult criminal system. At that hearing, the judge does not decide guilt or innocence. Instead, the judge weighs factors such as public safety, the seriousness of the allegations and the juvenile's background to determine where the case should be tried. If the case remains in adult court and there is a conviction, the defendant faces adult penalties.
Satter's initial adult hearing is scheduled for May 8, and the case will proceed in Marion County courts after that step. IMPD and local outlets have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIP (8477), as noted by WISH.
