One person was killed in a late-night crash Monday on Spring Grove Avenue in Cincinnati's Winton Place neighborhood, after an SUV slammed hard enough to leave behind heavy front-end damage and a trapped occupant, according to officials. Fire crews pulled the person from the wreck, but life-saving efforts at the scene did not succeed.
WKRC Local 12 reports the crash happened around 10:53 p.m. Monday. Authorities told the station they have not yet released the identity of the SUV’s occupant.
Where the crash happened
The wreck took place on Spring Grove Avenue in Winton Place, a north-side corridor the city has already flagged for closer safety scrutiny. According to the City of Cincinnati Transportation Safety Action Plan, stretches of Spring Grove and nearby streets have recorded elevated crash numbers and are on the list for potential engineering tweaks and speed-management changes.
Local pattern of serious wrecks
Neighbors on Cincinnati’s north side have watched a string of serious crashes this year, and this latest deadly incident fits an unsettling pattern. In February, a separate collision on Este Avenue in nearby Winton Hills left a passenger dead and drew a major emergency response, as previously detailed in Hoodline’s coverage of the overnight horror on Este Avenue.
What officials say next
Police have not yet shared any findings on what might have caused Monday’s crash, and have not said whether any testing or charges could follow. The Hamilton County coroner has also not publicly identified the victim. Officials typically follow up with a traffic-unit investigation alongside a coroner review, and anyone with information about the wreck was asked to contact Cincinnati police, according to WKRC Local 12.
