
Early Saturday on Chicago’s West Side, a 49-year-old man was shot and seriously wounded while walking along a Lawndale sidewalk near West Roosevelt Road and South Avers Avenue. He told officers he heard gunfire and initially thought he had been hit with paint before realizing he had been shot in the back. Chicago Fire Department paramedics rushed him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the shooting happened at about 2:20 a.m. A witness told police the suspect opened fire from across the street, then took off in a white sedan. Area Four detectives are handling the case, and authorities did not immediately release any further information about the shooter or the vehicle.
