A 15-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded early Thursday in the Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago's South Side, police said. He was found with a gunshot wound to the face and rushed to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The violence adds to a troubling string of recent shootings in Bronzeville that have neighbors and local leaders on edge.
What happened
Police said the shooting unfolded around 3:21 a.m. in the 4800-block of South Calumet Avenue, where officers found the teen lying on the ground with a facial injury, according to ABC7 Chicago. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition.
Area Two detectives have opened an investigation, but officers have not released any description of a suspect or suspects. Authorities also have not yet made the boy's identity public.
Recent violence in the neighborhood
The shooting is the latest in a series of high-profile incidents that have rattled Bronzeville in recent weeks.
