What police describe as a drug deal gone bad ended with a woman shot multiple times early Thursday in southwest Atlanta, after she allegedly went out to buy marijuana.
Officers responded around 12:35 a.m. to a report of a person shot in the 100 block of Cleveland Avenue SW, according to Atlanta News First. They found a woman suffering from several gunshot wounds at a home on Cleveland Avenue SW and rushed her to a hospital, where medics said she was alert and breathing. Investigators later determined she had gone to the 2600 block of Old Hapeville Road SW to buy marijuana when the shooting unfolded. Police have not released her identity or any information about a suspect, and detectives have opened an active probe.
Late-night shootings in southwest Atlanta
The case adds to a string of overnight shootings that have rattled southwest Atlanta this spring. In April, a woman shot repeatedly on Oakland Drive grabbed headlines, and earlier this month a deadly White Street shooting kept investigators canvassing neighborhoods for witnesses and surveillance footage.
Police ask for tips
Police have not released the victim's name in the Cleveland Avenue case and have not described any suspect, as the investigation continues.
