Indianapolis is waking up to a crisp, sunny Thursday morning, with temperatures around 39°F at Indianapolis International Airport and a light west-northwest breeze. High pressure will hang on through the afternoon, delivering plenty of sunshine across most of the metro and a high near 62°F.
Today Through Friday Night
Sun takes center stage today, with afternoon highs near 62°F and west-northwest winds generally between 2 and 9 mph before easing this evening. Clouds will thicken tonight, and there is a slight chance of a brief shower between about 8 and 9 p.m. Lows will slip into the mid-40s.
A stronger system moves in Friday, with rain showers likely by midday into the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are expected Friday night, with new rainfall amounts of roughly one-half to three-quarters of an inch possible and gusts up to 18 mph in the stronger storms, according to the National Weather Service.
Weekend Outlook
Saturday looks milder and mostly dry, with a high near 75°F. A leftover morning shower cannot be ruled out, and southwest wind gusts could reach the low 20s mph. Sunday brings another chance for showers and a few thunderstorms before a cooler, mostly dry Monday settles in.

Plan Ahead
If you have outdoor plans Friday afternoon or evening, plan on rain gear and give yourself extra travel time. Lightning and heavier downpours could quickly make short stretches of roadway slick. Keep an eye on updates from the National Weather Service and local officials, since the timing and intensity of storms can still shift.
