A severely neglected French bulldog mix found collapsed in the bushes outside a Fort Lauderdale Walgreens on Saturday night is now at the center of a desperate rescue effort. Volunteers have named her Miracle, and veterinarians are working around the clock to pull her back from the brink.
Good Samaritans spotted the dog near the Walgreens at 700 W. Broward Blvd. and immediately called iHeart Animal Rescue. The group rushed Miracle to an emergency veterinary clinic, where staff found her emaciated, barely able to stand and suffering from extensive injuries, according to WPLG Local 10.
Rescuers told the station that Miracle is believed to be about five to six years old and has already accumulated roughly $5,000 in medical bills. Despite her condition, a veterinarian has told the rescue that she can recover, a sliver of hope that has the group doubling down on her care.
The women who run iHeart Animal Rescue are personally putting up a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of whoever is responsible for Miracle’s suffering, WPLG Local 10 reports. The Brady Hunter Foundation has also stepped in, donating $1,000 after learning about the case.
The rescue’s website lists options for donations and fostering for those who want to help. Contributions will go toward immediate veterinary visits, medications and carefully supervised feeding as staff and volunteers work to bring Miracle back to health. Details are available at iHeart Animal Rescue.
“To know someone watched this dog suffer and torture it to this point, I don’t want to cry again… it’s awful,” Cheryl Marrone told WPLG Local 10. Rescue leaders say they are committed to fighting for Miracle’s recovery and are urging anyone with information to come forward so authorities can hold the person responsible accountable.
