
A follow-up search in Aurora for 32-year-old Shafia Murad, who was reported missing on May 28, ended in a grim find on Monday. Search teams recovered a body from a nearby retention pond, although authorities have not yet released the person’s identity or a cause of death.
Search Leads to Discovery in Retention Pond
During continued efforts to track down Murad, Aurora police located a body in a retention pond near Farnsworth Avenue and Corporate Boulevard, according to WGN-TV. Crews from the Aurora Fire Department removed the remains from the water, and detectives secured the scene while investigators began collecting evidence and conducting interviews.
Last Seen Near Chicago Premium Outlets
Murad was first reported missing on May 28 after she was last seen in the area of the Chicago Premium Outlets, according to CBS Chicago. Family members told reporters that her phone, wallet, and bank cards were later found at the mall, which alarmed them because she needs medication, FOX 32 Chicago reported.
Video Trail and Coroner’s Next Steps
Aurora police reviewed surveillance footage and learned that Murad traveled near the intersection of Farnsworth Avenue and Corporate Boulevard, the same area where search efforts were later concentrated, WGN-TV reported. Officials said the Kane County Coroner’s Office will determine the official identification and the manner of death as investigators continue their work.
