A violent head-on collision on Foresthill Road in Placer County yesterday left at least one person dead and two others with serious injuries, authorities said. The crash shut down the stretch of Foresthill Road between Lincoln Way and Old Foresthill Road while first responders and investigators worked the scene. One person who was taken to a hospital was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, officials said.
According to CBS Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said the collision appeared to be head-on and that the identity of the person who died has not yet been released. CBS reports that two others were transported to a hospital with suspected major injuries and that Foresthill Road remained closed as investigators processed the scene.
Where the collision happened
The wreck occurred on a winding, two-lane stretch east of Lincoln Way, a corridor that has already seen serious crashes this year. In April, a separate head-on collision near Lake Clementine killed multiple people, heightening long-standing concerns about safety on Foresthill Road, as reported by The Sacramento Bee. Local officials have previously urged drivers to slow down on the narrow, twisty portions of the route.
Investigation and next steps
One person was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to a hospital with suspected major injuries, the CHP told CBS Sacramento. Placer County prosecutors are expected to review the CHP investigation and determine whether charges will be filed as authorities continue gathering evidence.
The identity of the person who died has not been released, and Foresthill Road was closed in the immediate area while crews cleared the wreckage and collected evidence. Officials did not immediately release additional details, and this story will be updated as more information becomes available.
