Indianapolis is starting this Monday mostly clear and near 72°F, but the calm is on borrowed time. Humid air, scattered showers and thunderstorms, and a high near 84°F are all in the cards, with storm chances hanging around through much of the week.
Afternoon Rumbles And Overnight Downpours
A few isolated showers could pop up late this morning, mainly between about 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Storm chances ramp up from late morning into the evening, with coverage increasing after sunset. South-southeast winds around 5 to 9 mph, with gusts near 18 mph, will help feed the muggy setup.
The stronger storms may drop brief heavy downpours that cut visibility and slow traffic. Coverage increases tonight, and some neighborhoods could pick up a few tenths of an inch to around a half inch of rain before daybreak.
Who Is Most At Risk For High Water
Forecasters note that parts of central Indiana soaked up rain over the weekend, leaving soils unevenly saturated. That sets the stage for localized flash flooding if heavier storms repeatedly track over the same areas. The greatest potential for heavier rain is expected south and west of downtown toward the I-65 corridor, but any spot that sits under a slow-moving storm could see brief flooding.

Evening Commute Could Get Messy
Drivers should plan on giving themselves extra time for the evening commute and avoid driving through standing water. Turn around, do not drown.
